Through personal prayer experiences and a study of several men and women mystics, this course provides students with the opportunity to explore with their hearts as well as their minds their relationships with self, God, others, and creation. Fostering an integration of body, mind and spirit in the development of one's personal spirituality is a primary focus of this course.
Spirituality in LiteratureIn this course, students will be introduced to great writers of both classical and contemporary literature who have concerned themelves with the search for God, for wholeness, and for community. By reading, discussing and reflecting upon several novels, students will discover the power of literature to enlighten, to comfort, to challenge, to empower and to deepen one's spirituality.Women's StudiesThis course is designed to study women and their experiences from various perspectives: Spiritual, mythical, psychological, sociological, and historical. How do women define themselves in relationship to men, to society, to God, and to the earth? What are some of the common stereotypes that continue to distort the perception of women? What is the role of woman in the world today - as person, as wife, as mother, as worker, as contributor? Students are given opportunities to explore these and other issues facing contemporary women, to listen to the wisdom of the generations of women who have preceded them, and to complete a twelve week project that focuses on some aspect of their personal spiritual growth.
